Pure is Nara Vidal's third novel and the first to be translated into English.

This disturbing, unsettling tale takes place in a small town in Brazil in the 1930s, under the regime of Getulio Vargas, when the Constitution stated that every good citizen should support the national policy to whiten the country. Vidal unflinchingly portrays the bigotry and racism infecting Brazilian culture. Her narrative weaves between the diverse and compelling perspectives of her characters as prejudice is deconstructed amidst scenes of violence and horror.

Nara Vidal was born in Mines Gerais, Brazil and has lived in the UK since 2001. She received her degree in Literature and Languages from the Universidade Federal do Rio de Janeiro and a Master's in Fine Arts from the London Metropolitan University. Her work includes short stories, novels, children's literature, and her first novel, FATE, won the Oceanos Prize in 2019. She is a teacher, translator, and editor of Capitolina Revisit, for which she was awarded the APCA (Association of Art Critics of São Paulo) prize. Her short story collection, Mapas para Desaparecer, won the Luiz Gondim Book of the Year Prize in 2021. She was awarded, at the 2022 Guadalajara Book Fair, Portugal's D. Luis Literary Residence.
